Drakey has a new ability. He can make simple sentences and usually his favorite time to tell short stories to me is during his bedtime at night after singing some songs of course. I think it's all thanks to Blue's Clues lah. Sad as it may sound but yes that's the truth. It's hard to get away from kid's shows these days! :P
I've downloaded a couple of episodes and been having him repeating those episodes within a week. When out of no where he asks me," Mommy, where's Joe's blanket?" Turned his head left and right and began blanket hunting... "Over here... no no!! Hah! Over there!" he would say while hunting for his blanket which he pretended it's Joe's(Blue's Clues host) blanket. It's such a surprise to me because he usually has the same predictable sentences but just after a week his stories are so unpredictable that it surprises me sometimes.
The other night he was telling me about Blue's Clues again before he slept because he's loves Blues Clues so much and in the end he said to me," Good night Blue's Clues... pow pow pow... and then..." So I asked him, "and then what?" .... Silence... "And then what? Come on, finish your story." Tgk2 this eyes where layu already and he fell asleep shortly after that. Oh great.. I told myself. Now my heart's going to itch cause I'll never know the ending of his story lol.
Although still not that terrer telling stories like his cousin Gib but oh yeah ... now I got one talking toddler who likes to talk all the time. The more he knows how to talk, the more demands he has on what he likes and doesn't like and negotiating with a talking toddler doesn't make it easier... dulu I thought if he knows how to talk senang siiikit tapi mcm sama jak... tambah pening sikit pun ada jugak hehe. Don't get this wrong Drakey... joke jak bah. Mommy really loves you, you know ^_^
As for his alphabets, I taught him for 2 weeks or so. One week for small letters and one week for big letters. I've made my own colorful ABC's flash cards on an A4 paper cut in two and asked him to guess and read out the letters when possible. I've downloaded those cute Sesame Street's ABC song on youtube, put it in my VLC player playlist and loop it. The same thing goes with his numbers. Although he messes his alphabets sometimes but 99% of the time he gets it right and now I'm thinking how in the world am I going to teach him how to read?!
Currently I'm repeating on the same sets of words with a picture behind or some other sliding flashcards with the words outside and the pictures inside. Using my index finger to go through the words. It's still going very slow since he refuses to read because he starts singing ABC after reading the 5th flash card. Hehehehehe... My geram sometimes can become a huge laughter these days. Dunno why :D
Like I said, when he was younger and was so innocent... less cheekier lol, there wasn't any fuss and he follows what word was taught. Ikut bulat bulat... Like tiger, cat, gorilla, elephant, bike, car, rhino, ear, toes, eyes, mouth, sit, wave, baby... If not reading it, he would show it to me what it is but now it's a whole different way to teach him and am still pening.
Probably he's not ready? Probably I need a different method? Probably I'm pushing him too much. I don't know. I have a feeling my dull flashcards bore him. I probably should get one of those Ladybug book series. I've seen many home schooled kids use them. Thinking out loud, I should probably browse blogs on homeschooling. Haven't done that yet. Currently using my own technique. The mommy needs some inspiration!
